Time for the mods and admin to stop forcing their "personal" views of negativity and discord on everyone. What they see thru their eyes, does not mean that anyone else views things this way.

Time for members to stop being banned for being themselves and expessing their opinions, even if those opinions are abrasive and tend to piss people off.

Time for those members who are so easily "pissed off" and who's feelings are so easily hurt, to learn to ignore and not keep constantly replying to and provoking the comments of the members that bother them so damn much.

Time for those same members to stop whining and bothering the mods and admin via dozens of crybaby PM's after replying and responding over and over to a member that they obviously dislike, blatently asking for the abuse that is so upsetting to them, and then using the mods to bail them out.

Time for the mods and admin to deal with the whiny ass PM senders as harshly as they do with everyone else, and to realize that these PM senders are just as guilty in the argument as the individual they are crying about.

Everyone who posts here has differing views, opinions and emotions. Some people are thickskinned, or simply don't consider what is said online, or in a forum (even *this* forum) to be like speaking with someone in real life.

That's both true and untrue at the same time :

It's true when you consider that people here discuss things publically that they'd probably not even tell their own mother.......

It's untrue when you realise that whether you know me or not, calling me a Big Gay Horse, or whatever is considered by the poster to be a fitting insult might actually upset me...or anyone else it is aimed at.

When someone complains about a post, as everyone here is permitted to do when they see fit, the mod who is about will consider it carefully.

If the person being reported is known for being a bit insensitive, then they'll be dealt with in exactly the same way as a newbie who's first post has a pop at someone...

There are no absolutes here about how far someone has to go before one of the mods has a private word with them, or takes further action.

Everyone who's been around for a while knows full well who the hotheads are....and for the most part are probably more tolerant about them....

Although I, and the others spend a lot of time reading posts, we don't read everything...so if a hothead says something that goes unreported, we'll not take any action unless we see it ourselves.

That doesn't mean we cut them any slack, or are biased towards or against them. If someone chooses to start being insulting towards others, and do it on a regular basis, then it's probably that they will be spoken to.

Not only because they are repeating themselves as far as dodgy behaviour goes, but statistically it becomes more likely that they will be reported or noticed by a mod.

The only absolute is this : If someone complains about a post it WILL be investigated. It's then up to the mods to decide how we are going to deal with it.

As to jcmd62 not caring whether slx calls him a name or not...well up to a point that's between them.

But any name callers need to be fully aware that every post is potentially viewed by people who it wasn't intended for. People who might be disgusted/upset/thinskinned or *shock horror* children.

There are a few members here who are quite young. They may or may not know every swear word under the sun....that's their issue....but when someone decides to potentially teach them a few new words, the reaction of the community as a whole might be less tolerant.

As a mod, I do not consider that I am here to police or babysit anyone. I expect everyone to show a degree of communal spirit when they post....and that they know that they can only push the language used to a certain point before someone reacts, be it someone reporting a post or whatever.

If you or anyone else doesn't agree that the community policing themselves up to a point, with us here to guide/encourage/discourage as required is a good theng, then I suggest you look at the alternatives.

There are various forums which have absolute moderation. Anything posted goes to a mod who reads it before it is posted publically.

I'd not want to post anything under that sort of repressive atmosphere. I'd sure as hell not like to be a mod there.

There are usenet groups which are completely unmoderated in anyway - anything goes...and therefore every other word begins with "F".......

Find one of those and try to have a conversation with anyone about anything even half serious....and good luck to you.

Personal freedom, and freedom to post here is wonderful...but there are limits, and always will be.

If someone feels that they cannot post without insulting people, then perhaps they should think, then post.....

If someone feels the need to swear incessantly...perhaps they should go buy a dictionary, or a word of the day calender and try to expand their vocabulary.

I will personally be fairly tolerant of someone saying "this is fukking unfair"....but if they decided to say "Person a is a fukking moron, and person b smells" I'll react. And if person a or be complains, as they are well within their rights to, myself and the other mods are duty bound to investigate and react if necessary.

If someone reports something to a mod, it'll be looked at...and at no point will we begin to "punish" someone for reporting something that we consider unworthy of our time or attention.

That, quite frankly, is a dreadful idea.

I don't see anyone asking czar to sign in as "Tommy" nor do I see him being asked to change. Yet I do see his posts being deleted because of their content.

What makes slx so much worse that he must change to return? I don't remember any of his posts being deleted because they were so bad that the rest of the board shouldn't even read them.

I think that restrictions, the heavy handed way that members are forced to "get along" and the "you have to be checked out before you can join" registration process are doing a fine job of driving members and potential members away.
