Have any of you noticed that this forum seems to stop working for a ten minute interval around 20:20 - 20:30 GMT every day?

I have no idea why, but I only can hope it's for a worthy cause, perhaps with the web hoster (http://www.f5hosting.com/) routinely backing up the site or the data.

Our website is running on the Apollo server.

The webhoster has announced here (http://www.f5hosting.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1455) that there will be a downtime of the site on Sunday 2004-07-11 from 04:00 to 10:00 GMT. The server is actually located in New Jersey, which is close to New York, and will move to another part of New Jersey. The whois (http://www.whois.sc/3-3-3.org) information of the site used to list the server as being in New Jersey, but now it shows it as being in California, so I think the information from the whois site is not accurate. I wonder if the current dedicated IP address of our site 216.67.233.204 (http://216.67.233.204/) will stay the same after the server moves on Sunday.

If the main site of our web hoster goes down, you can also try their backup site at f5hosting.net (http://www.f5hosting.net/) for information.

If the site ever goes down then my email address webmaster @ 3-3-3.org also stops working and all emails sent to it disappear without getting sent to me or bounced back to you. The email that still works even when the forum is down is the one listed in my profile.

I got an email from the webhoster yesterday saying that the site is moving from the server named Apollo to the server named Pluto.

One or more of your sites are on our Apollo server. Tonight we will begin migrating all sites to a new server. It will be called Pluto, but it's not the old one. It's brand new, over 33% faster than Apollo and has 50% more RAM. It's also got much faster hard drives and a next generation Linux kernel.

The move should be transparent to you. There will be no down time and you don't need to do anything. If you experience any trouble connecting to your email accounts make sure you are using the complete email address as your username in your email client. If you are making any modifications to your site please use the domain name to connect via FTP. This will ensure you are connecting to the active version of the site.

If you do have any problems submit a support ticket and we'll resolve any issues ASAP.

It is indicated on the first line on the System table. Currently it is listed as apollo.f5hosting.com, so the change hasn't occurred yet.

I'm going to download another forum backup today just in case. Usually I make about two backups per week.

Ever since a week ago September 19 the forum has been working on a different IP address of 65.98.59.186 (http://65.98.59.186) located in Parsippany New Jersey that is shared with 115 other sites. The prior server Apollo had us working on a dedicated IP address of 216.67.233.204/forum/ (http://216.67.233.204/forum/). It looks like they cloned the forum and database and the cloned one is working here now. I never had to change the nameservers so it was probably something the webhoster was able to do instantly. I tried logging in to the old forum but it wouldn't let me do so, but it is still accepting registrations of new users and posts by guests in the filesharing forums there.

Have you folks noticed this forum has been slow as hell and you often get the error message that the server can not be found when you click on a link lately? I've been getting it since yesterday here. Maybe it's this JetBot (http://www.jeteye.com/jetbot.html) web crawler with an IP address starting with 64.71.144 that is the cause of it.

Actually those other 115 sites listed above could help troubleshooting why the forum is so slow here the last day. If it's just the search engines affecting it then it would be isolated to just this site. But I noticed just now that www.thesoulgirl.com was also slow at the same time this one was, which led me to believe it is the problem of the webhoster and Pluto server.

And at some point if this keeps continuing then I might have to switch webhosters or plans to get a faster forum. Maybe what we had before was too good and they realized it by putting us on the 99¢ server instead.
