for some reason suprnova does not have the TCF release of School of Rock. I desire this. I'd rather rip my testicles out with plyers then suffer through trying to get something like this via P2P or IRC, so could you nice folks link me to some alternative bittorrent sites out there?

thanks SO much! lots of smilies and positivity for all of you!!!!! it's about SHARING! AND COMMUNITY!!!!!!

(giggle)

SuprNova (http://www.suprnova.org/) was the best place for BitTorrent links, but it closed in the last week because of fear of the MPAA. This was the message left at the site when it went down:

Greetings everybody,

As you have probably noticed, we have often had downtimes. This was because it was so hard to keep this site up!
But now we are sorry to inform you all, that SuprNova is closing down for good in the way that we all know it.
We do not know if SuprNova is going to return, but it is certainly not going to be hosting any more torrent links.
We are very sorry for this, but there was no other way, we have tried everything.

Thank you all that helped us, by donating mirrors or something else, by uploading and seeding files, by helping people out on IRC and on forum, by spreading the word about SuprNova.org.
It is a sad day for all of us!

Please visit SuprNova.org every once in a while to get the latest news on what is happening and if there is anything new to report on.

As we wish to maintain the nice comunity that we created, we are keppig forums and irc servers open.

Thank you all and Goodbye!
sloncek & the rest of the SuprNova Team

There is a thread at P2P Consortium listing BitTorrent sites here (http://www.p2pconsortium.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=73), though a lot of those have shut down in the last week.

I've never used BitTorrent but it was the fastest way to get large files, and it accounted for a good portion of internet and p2p traffic. Here's my understanding of how BitTorrent works. A file is divided into many chunks or pieces and shared by many people. In order to download a chunk, you have to upload a chunk as well, so that it forces people not to leech. As you get towards completing the file your speeds increase because you have more chunks to exchange with others, allowing you to download at faster speeds. BitTorrent is fast because of its built in anti-leeching bartering feature. It's only good for getting large popular files and it has no search abilities. Because of that it is not a digital library the way other p2p filesharing networks are. BitTorrent relies on tracker sites, which are then listed on centralized servers like SuprNova by way of .torrent files, which contain the tracker server information. That is also its vulnerability because the centralized torrent link servers can be shut down, and many of them were in the last week. SuprNova was working on a decentralized version of its site through a program known as eXeem (http://www.slyck.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8240) that was in beta testing.

There was a detailed paper studying BitTorrent done by Johan Pouwelse, which can be read at Delft University of Technology (http://www.pds.ewi.tudelft.nl/reports/2004/PDS-2004-003/pdsreport.html) or The Register (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/12/18/bittorrent_measurements_analysis/).

its a relativelly new site (2 weeks old) but has great files, and a great community!
I heard its located overseas too. Everyone should go and help these sites to start up!
