I was making a new thread and it wasn't working. At first I thought there was something wrong with the newthread.php script, so I uploaded it by ftp again. Finally I discovered it was the actual text of my words that was causing the new thread not to work. I narrowed down the word combination causing the failure to insert in-to, but without the dash. The board will not accept those combination of words. I can't even write it or the board won't accept this post as new. It also wouldn't accept it in my signature or in a thread title.

Apparently this is a bug in vBulletin 2.3.4. It must be that vBulletin is becoming socially conservative and refuses to allow the words "insert in_to". Well can anyone think of any good, clean uses for that combination of words?

I started a thread (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96654) about this at the vBulletin forum. They are saying that it is not a vBulletin bug, but I am skeptical, because of its prevalence in which it affects signatures as well. I wouldn't be able to test it until the hack (http://www.3-3-3.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=173) currently installed on the board is uninstalled.

Well it seems the "insert into" bug is not a problem anymore. I don't know why it is fixed.

I can read PMs but I can't send or preview PMs. This is a new problem that developed in the last two hours.

They are working again, so I guess it was some kind of temporaray forum glitch. Maybe the webhoster was backing up the site or something.

The problem came about without me doing anything and then went away by itself later too.

Thanks for the test PMs everybody.

I had the same problem on the board right now, but this time with making and previewing posts. The message I got was:
Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource /forum/newreply.php could not be found on this server.

I found a thread at vBulletin forums here (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=113570) where someone had a similar problem.

I then toyed around with my post and found that I could preview some things if I changed the contents. Finally I narrowed down the problem to a specific arrangement of words that would cause the post to fail or not.

Here's the new bug I found. I can not post the words: "SmartFTP-x" (with a space instead of the dash) or "SmartFTP" with a space and a character added afterwards. Try it yourself and see if you get the error. It does it with PMs too. I tried it at vBulletin forums and it didn't give me a problem there. If you ever get a problem like this try changing the content of your post or PM to see if that still gives you the error, and to identify the string of characters that creates the error.
