I filed my taxes late, about a month ago. I just noticed that the refund is exactly $600 larger than what I put in for. Last year I got back about $1000 more than what I applied for. Maybe someone else should do my taxes for me, or I need to change the batteries on the calculator.

Do you just file an EZ form or are yours more complicated than that?? I suck at math and stuff so my mom figures mine for me and she is good at it too.:bluefish:

I probably would use the 1040EZ form, but you can't use it if your taxable income is more than $50,000. Even though I can itemize my deductions, because I use form 1040, I take the standard deduction because I find it is larger than itemizing the deductions. I know some people who get their taxes done by a special accountant, who knows the limits of itemizing that will not raise flags. Their itemized listings are exaggerated and they pay less taxes as a result. You can cheat a little on your taxes and get away with it. Paying your taxes honestly is optional.

We ought to be paying down the national debt, for America's future. Being overcharged on the taxes is a way of expressing one's love for the country.

I was given the reason why I got more taxes back, and it is because of the "child tax credit". I see how I got confused on the worksheet (page 40 of the 1040 book), because of its poor wording. It says I can not take the "child tax credit", but then when I look down below on the same worksheet, it says I can take the "additional child tax credit".
Boy O Boy............. pay attention
I'd always trust our dillweed of a gov to keep track of gettin' my my money back!!!!!!

i didnt file my taxes last year. this year i have to file them. I didn't save any receipts for tax deductions. I spent nearly $4000.00 on train tickets last year. Someone told me if i had kept all of the tickets, i might have been able to use them as a tax deduction. I didn't know...

Americans are supposed to file their taxes by April 15th, or they pay interest on any money they owe. I haven't filed either my federal or local taxes yet. The local taxes are a combination of New York state and New York city taxes. I don't know if I'll owe but I suspect this time that I will because I had fewer taxes taken out of each paycheck once my wife got sick over the Summer and I have left it that way since then.
What a lot of people do is take their information to an accountant and the accountant knows how much to claim for personal exemptions without it raising the suspicions of the IRS, which is the government agency that deals with taxes. So they exaggerate their exemptions and pay less taxes. I take the standard deduction rather than itemizing my taxes, so as a result I pay more taxes than my peers who go to accountants do.
